CIAA files corruption charge sheet against Lyarkal Lama

May2016- The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption charge sheet case against UCPN (Maoist) leader Lyarkal Lama in the special court.
According to CIAA spokesperson Krishna Hari Pushkar, the Legislature Parliament Secretariat has also been informed about the case filed.
In the charge sheet, the anti-graft body has claimed that Lama misappropriated Rs 94.4 million by abusing his authority after becoming a lawmaker. This is one of the highest amounts sought by the anti-graft body in damages.
Lama, a former CPN-UML member, was a State Finance Minister in Jhala Nath Khanal’s Cabinet. He had to resign from his state minister post following controversy over his citizenship certificate. He then quit UML and joined UCPN (Maoist), which appointed him as lawmaker from the proportional category, despite some strong resistance from the party.
